House and Senate In -Session Pictures

Results from Senate Session I

Senate Session I had many interesting and debatable bills to come before the Senate. Senate Bills 03, 19, 23, 10 and 30 all failed due to the lack of information and interest for the state among fellow senators. Then there was Senate Bill 11 which was to remove harsher penalties on illicit drug trafficking within enumerated distances from public housing projects and Senate Bill 09-Physician Recruitment Act both passed. The final bill to pass was Senate Bill 27 which would call for a special state wide election to put into question whether to call for a constitutional convention to the qualified electors of the state.

Results from House Session I

House Session I was full of heated debate. House Bills 14, 23, 18, & 32 all proposed good arguments but still failed. On the other hand House Bill 10- To establish Alabama Highway 542-The Alabama Autobahn, proposed highway stretching from Huntsville, AL to Florala, AL with no speed limits whatsoever caused division among representatives and Passed 39 to 38. House Bill 34 to change the age to purchase tobacco products to 18 also passed.

Youth Maslikhat of Kazakhstan

We would like to send out a warm thanks to Seven Delegates from the Youth Maslikhat (Legislature) of Youth Parliament Development from Kazakhstan for attending the Senate session this morning. As the YMCA Collegiate Legislature is a Mock Session the Youth Maslikhat actually as the authority to mandate and enforce their legislation that passes. A recent bill that the Youth Maslikhat passed abolished the use of tobacco in any public place in Kazakhstan and it has been going over well.

The delegates presented YMCA Executive Director Andy Sullivan with an exclusive business card holder for his graciousness and hospitality shown towards their delegation while here in Montgomery.
